Neighbors Recycle Over 49 Tons of Paint

On May 16, we participated in the Citywide Paint Recycling Event, a partnership between the Sustainable Neighborhood Network, 6 of Lakewood’s Sustainable Neighborhoods, and 2 of Wheat Ridge’s Sustainable Neighborhoods.

Residents were able to safely recycle unused paint and empty containers during this 1-day, contact-free event at 2 locations in Lakewood and 1 in Wheat Ridge.

Approximately 98,266 pounds of paint were collected–that’s just over 49 tons. Residents were able to clear these paint cans from their garages, sheds, and closets, and instead of going to a landfill, it is headed to a more sustainable future. The latex paint products will be filtered and revitalized to be resold under the GreenSheen Paint label; the oil-based products will be used as an alternative fuel source.
